How do they work?

Solar Panels also known as Photovoltaic Panels (PV) convert sunlight into electricity using semiconductor materials, typically silicon. When sunlight hits the panels, it excites electrons in the cells, creating a flow of direct current (DC) electricity. This electricity is then passed through an inverter, which converts it into alternating current (AC) the type of electricity used by your home or business. The generated power can be used immediately, stored in a battery system, or exported back to the grid.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Sunlight to Electricity - Converts free sunlight into usable power even on cloudy days.
  • Grid-Tied or Off-Grid - Use energy in real time, store it in a battery, or sell excess back to the grid.
  • Low Maintenance - Few moving parts and long-lasting technology, typically 25+ years lifespan.
  • Clean & Silent - Generates renewable electricity with no noise or emissions.
  • Instant Savings - Reduce reliance on your energy supplier and protect against rising electricity costs.
  • Smart Integration - Can be paired with battery storage and smart monitoring systems for total control.

For Business Owners

Switching to solar PV is a smart move for businesses looking to reduce operating costs and meet sustainability targets. By generating your own clean electricity on-site, you’ll significantly cut CO₂ emissions, reduce reliance on the grid, and demonstrate environmental leadership all while turning unused roof space into a revenue-generating asset through energy savings and export tariffs.

For Homeowners

Installing solar panels at home gives you greater energy independence, helping you become more self-sufficient while protecting yourself from rising electricity prices. By generating your own power and using it when you need it most, you’ll reduce your carbon footprint, lower your monthly bills, and gain real control over your household energy future.

FAQs

ESP Energy operates a dedicated maintenance and servicing division that spans the length and breadth of the UK, supporting a wide range of technologies including heat pumps, biomass and gas boilers, solar PV systems, and Combined Heat & Power (CHP) units. We offer flexible service contracts tailored to your operational needs, along with responsive out-of-hours call-outs and ongoing telephone support.

Our approach is centred around reliability, availability, and convenience – we work around your schedule to minimise disruption and ensure your systems continue to perform at their best. In addition, we are registered electricity brokers, with an experienced back-office team that monitors energy markets in real time. This enables us to advise clients on cost-saving opportunities, available schemes, and energy procurement strategies that align with your broader energy goals.

At ESP Energy, we’re proud to have a diverse and highly skilled in-house team that includes roofers, electrical engineers, civil and heating engineers, CAD designers, and refrigeration specialists, collectively bringing over 100 years of experience to every project we deliver.

We complete 99.9% of all work using our own team, ensuring full control over quality, safety, and timelines. Subcontracting is only ever considered in rare cases where a highly specialised task falls outside our core expertise, and even then, it’s only done with your prior agreement and full transparency before the project begins. This approach gives our clients confidence that their project is being handled by people who are accountable, qualified, and fully aligned with our standards.

The first step in our process is to sit down with you, ideally face to face, to gain a clear understanding of your requirements, site conditions, and how your business operates. This initial consultation allows us to assess your energy consumption patterns, review any data or information you have available, and explore your long-term objectives.

We believe that successful projects start with listening, not selling. By taking the time to understand your organisation and energy profile in detail, we can tailor a solution that genuinely aligns with your operational goals and delivers measurable value from day one.

Yes. Most modern solar systems are compatible with battery upgrades, and we can retrofit storage to most existing installations.
